We are pleased to announce that an agreement has been signed with St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Lynchburg, Virginia to reengineer, revoice and install Casavant Frères Opus 3818, a three-manual and pedal, 52 rank instrument originally built for Chaparral Christian Church, Scottsdale, Arizona. When completed, the organ will consist of the unenclosed Grand Orgue, the expressive Récit and Choeur divisions and a significant and largely independent Pedal division. The Grand Orgue, Récit and Pédale divisions will be installed in the space currently occupied by Schantz Opus 1097, (1972). The Choeur division will be installed in a newly designed chamber located in a separate room to the left of and at a ninety-degree angle to the main installation where it will speak directly to St. Paul’s choir. The decision to acquire a pipe organ that fulfills the requirements of a growing and musically active Episcopal parish was the result of a carefully structured process of discernment lead by Co-Rectors Rev. Todd M. Vie and Rev. Dr. Diane E. Vie; Organist and Choirmaster Sumner Jenkins, a dedicated organ committee, and a vestry that whole-heartedly embraced the concept of continuing to invest in parish infrastructure on par with that of the parish founders. One has only to walk the grounds of the parish campus and enter the beautifully restored sanctuary to understand the commitment that St. Paul’s has made to its parishioners and to the community at large. We have little doubt that the new organ, known as the Bicentennial Organ in celebration of St. Paul’s two-hundredth anniversary, will be used to successfully support its many and diverse programs. We appreciate the confidence that St. Paul’s has shown in our ability to provide an instrument appropriate to the liturgy and music of the Episcopal Church and specifically to support the efforts of the Episcopal “Mother Church” of Lynchburg.
